Tubular Drag Conveyors: Operation And Maintenance

Jun 29, 2026

Tubular Drag Conveyors are a type of equipment with continuous conveying function. Within the closed cylindrical-shaped trough, through the pushing and pulling force of the moving chain and disc, the materials and disc pieces form a continuous overall conveying form. They are one of the main enclosed conveying equipment in feed processing plants, raw material warehouses, or pharmaceutical and chemical industries. At the same time, their stable operation is of great significance for improving production efficiency and reducing production costs. Therefore, regular maintenance and upkeep of tubular drag conveyors are of vital importance.

Tubular Drag Conveyor Structure

The Tubular Drag Chain Conveyor is mainly composed of components such as the motor drive device, conveying pipeline, chain & disc, head and tail sprocket, inlet, outlet, corner sprocket box, and automatic tensioner.

Daily Use Of Tubular Drag Conveyors

  • Before each feeding, start the tubular drag conveyors 20 seconds in advance and then make the feeding;
  • After each feeding, stop the tubular drag conveyors 2 minutes later to allow it to fully transport the materials in the pipeline to the next equipment;
  • For newly installed Tubular Chain Conveyors, turn on the passive box every day for inspection. Check if the chain is properly tightened and the wear degree of the material disc; after the tubular drag conveyors have been running normally for 15 days, you can appropriately extend the inspection time for the chain and the material disc based on the chain tension and material disc condition during previous operation.

Maintenance Of Tubular Drag Conveyors

 Daily Inspection

  • Tubular Drag Conveyor Chain InspectionCheck the wear condition of the conveying chain. If the chain breaks, deforms or is excessively worn, it should be replaced promptly.
  • Check the wear condition of the sprocket, sprocket shaft and bearings. If the wear is severe, it should be replaced or repaired in time.
  • Check the operation of the drive device such as the motor and reducer to ensure there is no abnormal noise, vibration or overheating.
  • Check if the flange connections of the conveying pipeline are tightened and if there is any air leakage or material leakage.
  • Check if the safety protection devices of the electrical control system are in good condition, such as the emergency stop button and overload protector.

 Lubrication And Maintenance

  • Use a dedicated lubricant to lubricate the chain to ensure smooth rotation during movement and reduce wear.
  • Regularly clean and lubricate the moving parts such as sprockets, sprocket shafts, and bearings to prevent contaminants like dust and debris from affecting the lubrication effect.
  • Regularly check the oil level and quality of the lubricant. If the oil level is too low or the oil quality has deteriorated, add or replace it promptly.

 Cleaning And Maintenance

  • Use a dedicated cleaning agent to clean the conveying pipeline, removing any residual materials and dirt inside, to ensure the pipeline remains unobstructed.
  • Clean the moving parts such as the conveying chains and sprockets, removing oil stains and dust from their surfaces, to keep the components clean.
  • Regularly dust off the electrical control system to prevent dust accumulation from affecting the normal operation of the equipment.

 Tightening And Maintenance

  • Check if the flange connections of the conveying pipeline are securely fastened. If any looseness is found, tighten them immediately.
  • Check if the fastening parts of the moving components such as chains and sprockets are firmly secured. If any looseness is detected, tighten them promptly.
  • Check if the wiring of the electrical control system is securely fastened. If any looseness is found, tighten it immediately.

 Fault Diagnosis And Repair

  • Conduct regular inspections of the equipment. If any abnormal sounds, vibrations, or overheating are detected, immediately stop the machine for inspection and troubleshooting.
  • Regularly inspect the electrical control system. If control failure, sensor damage, or other issues are found, promptly replace or repair them.
  • For faults and problems that cannot be resolved by oneself, contact professional maintenance personnel for handling immediately.

The stable and efficient operation of Tubular Drag Conveyors cannot be achieved without standardized daily operations and systematic maintenance. Failure to conduct regular inspections, lubrication, cleaning, and tightening and repair of core components such as chain & disc, head and tail sprockets, drive device, and automatic tensioner can easily lead to equipment wear, material blockage, and machine downtime, thereby increasing production losses.
